More Fros

"Grace" photograph by Dawn Okoro, 2011

I had a fun photoshoot with Grace recently. She came by and I shot some images of her in a couple of outfits and wigs. I am now working on a 4 foot tall portrait on paper using those new images as reference. I hope to be finished with it in about 2 weeks.

The photo above came from the shoot, but will not be used for the painting.

Grace also posed for the painting below, "Fearless" back in 2009.

I'm still here. . .

When it comes to my art, I'm definitely having moments when I ask myself, "why do I do this?" and "could I live without it?"

Earlier in the summer I focused on finding a venue to show my "Selfsploitation" series. While I'm still working on that, I am also starting to create the next set of paintings.

I am working a 9 to 5 behind the scenes in television. Its a cool job, but as you may know its not easy to squeeze in time and energy to make art when you're tired from your day job. I am trying to make the best use of my time as possible.

Right now there is 4 foot hand being painted in the studio. Hopefully I will be posting new work here as the year ends. I am trying to have more fun with it, going with my gut, and simply painting what's inside my head.

I have come to a point where I want to actively search for a venue for my new work. This could mean sending out literally hundreds of proposals. I have decided to thrive on the inevitable rejection. Each rejection is valuable to me. It can take hundreds of NOs to get one YES. Its all a numbers game.

The above painting is "Girl in Purple Bikini" oil and acrylic on paper, 48x48 inches. Its part of my Selfsploitation project.
