Toyin Odutola

Today, I came across the artwork of Toyin Odutola and I really enjoyed what I saw. You can check it out at www.toyino.com.

Visiting a Painting and Completing the Process

Its rare that I have the opportunity to visit a collector's home and see how they have my paintings displayed.

A few years ago, the family of the late Dave Brown (former NFL player and coach for the Seahawks) commissioned me to paint portrait of their family. This month, I was in town for the holidays was able to stop by their home. I was elated to see how lovely the work was displayed.

For me, knowing that a piece of art is in the home of someone that truly loves it completes process.

Dawn Okoro Art Talk at Notre Dame

I have have been invited to be a guest speaker at The University of Notre Dame; the talk will take place on February 10, 2010. I will be speaking about perceptions of black women and the new project I am working on that relates to that topic. I will also conduct a workshop on that subject. Patrice Yursik, creator of Afrobella.com will be speaking on that topic as well.

I hope to conduct the workshop here in New York City sometime in January as a test run. I will post more details as they develop.
