New Drawing, "Woman in Igbo Print Dress"

I've just completed a set of drawings that will be on view at NYU in a few days. This drawing is called "Woman in Igbo Print Dress." The pattern on the dress is inspired by Ukara cloth. This kind of cloth incorporates symbols that are designed to give it meaning and power.

The title of the show is "Rooted Expressions." Although I have roots in Nigeria, I have never been there and I want to explore that side of my ancestry. However, I feel that I am learning about Nigeria while naturally using America as my point of reference.

Prints and the gold look. . .

Some of my paintings involve a metallic gold paint and it can be difficult to turn these into prints because I would like the gold to look a certain way. As a solution, I have decided to hand paint the gold portions on the prints and its turning out really nice. "Turned Away" and "Diamonds in the Back" are now available at my print website
